Abandonment and abuse of vulnerable babies and children is a result of various factors: poverty and the breakdown of traditional kinship support systems due to HIV/Aids and urbanization as well as rape and statutory rape.
The Almond Tree exists to create a net that will catch as many vulnerable babies and children as possible.
We offer a safe home environment where trained care-givers who understand the trauma experienced by babies and children at risk are devoted to nurturing and rehabilitating each child.
Due to a lack of knowledge children with special needs are often misunderstood as cursed and are rejected by their family or community, outcast or simply abandoned and left for dead.
Our commitment is to provide the support needed to ensure these babies and children are not forgotten, are given equal opportunity to live with dignity and are loved, encouraged and supported to reach their fullest potential.
