Early Childhood Development
Back to what we do overview page
By the age of 2, a baby’s brain will have reached 80% of its adult size. The quality of experiences during the first 1000 days of life establishes the foundation for everything that follows.

At The Almond Tree we strive to ensure that the babies and children in our care are stimulated and nurtured to promote early childhood development and prepare them for their school career.

Our vision is for each baby and child in our care to be a leader in society and become a change-agent for the future of South Africa.

Our Early Childhood Development program entails a daily stimulation program which caters for 18 months – 3years old. A Thematic Curriculum approach is taken which requires weekly planning and preparation.

The children are encouraged to investigate, explore and learn through creative play. Guided play is encouraged using an “enquiry approach” to encourage the personal development of each child. Observations are recorded of age- appropriate milestones and daily observations of the children’s development.

The following early learning development areas are focal points of the program: Wellbeing of the child, identity and belonging, communication, exploring mathematics, creativity, knowledge & understanding of the world through creative play.

Traumatic experiences can result in delayed cognitive development and therefore our aim is to stimulate wholistic development of the child to ensure that restoration and rehabilitation take place.
