What we do– Rita F Pearson

RESCUE
Babies are rescued in various ways, either by SAPS, Child Protection Services or from hospitals where mothers request to give their child up for adoption.Babies often arrive unwell, malnourished and traumatized from neglect, abuse or the displacement from familiar faces.

RESTORE
The Almond Tree staff are passionate about caring for and nurturing vulnerable babies and children. We are devoted to caring for and restoring every baby that comes through our doors. The Almond Tree has dedicated, trained staff who understand the trauma experienced by babies.

RELEASE
The Almond Tree is actively involved in decision making from the moment a baby or child is placed in our care.We determine outcomes through a multi-disciplinary team that meet regularly to discuss the progress of individual cases and together ensure that the interests of the child are prioritized.

Care & protection of vulnerable babies & children
The breakdown of traditional community support systems is largely due to HIV/Aids and urbanization, rape and statutory rape. Along with these factors, poverty is also a large contributor to the widespread abandonment and abuse of vulnerable babies and children.

Staff Training and Development
In this work, people make all the difference. We pride ourselves in recruiting excellent staff. We motivate and educate our staff, who in turn contribute to the well-being and growth of The Almond Tree.

Education
By the age of two, a baby’s brain will have reached 80% of its adult size. The quality of a child’s experiences during the first 1000 days of their life establishes the foundation for everything that follows in their growth and development.
